Former Massachusetts Coal Plant to Become $200 Million Offshore Wind Manufacturing Hub

The site of what used to be the largest coal-fired power plant in New England will soon become home to a much more eco-friendly industrial operation.

Italian energy and telecom cable provider Prysmian Group announced Feb. 17 that it finalized plans for a new submarine power cable factory at the former Brayton Power Plant in Somerset, Massachusetts.

The Brayton facility was Masachussetts’ last operating coal-fired power plant when it closed in 2017. Prysmian said it will transform the site into a facility that makes undersea cables that carry power from offshore wind energy generators to the electric grid.
